Words Of Wisdom February 2, 2020

Memory Verse
“Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as
serpents and harmless as doves” (Matthew 10:16).
Words Of Wisdom
Being a follower of Jesus will not always be easy. Jesus said so Himself
in many places. He told His disciples that following Him would involve
“carrying a cross” (Matt 16:24), that is, suffering for His sake. In “The
Bible Knowledge Commentary,” Louis A. Barbiere, Jr. states: ” It would
be essential for them [the followers of Jesus] to be as shrewd as snakes
and as innocent as doves, that is, wise in avoiding danger but harmless
in not forcibly opposing the enemy.” As messengers for our Lord Jesus
Christ, God calls us to share the message of life with “humility and
respect” (1 Peter 3:16). When others are not open to our words (or even
if they are hostile or rude toward them) we are to be gracious in how we
react as well as wise in how to move forward. Sometimes, it is best to
just move on and leave the person in God’s hands. The Apostle Paul
was willing to die for Jesus, but he always sought to escape that
outcome if there was any way possible.
