Memory Verse

Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. But He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?” (Mark 4:39–40).
Commentary
In Mark, Jesus’ disciples are often unbelieving believers. Yes, they are children of God (except for Judas). And yes, their names are written in the Book of Life, and they will be with God forever.
But during Jesus’ ministry to them—and even after He rises from the dead—His disciples will struggle greatly with having faith in God: “O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you?” (Mark 9:19). Followers of Christ do not always grow in understanding and faith as quickly as God would like them to! So, let’s keep praying and encouraging one another!

Memory Verse

And with many such parables He spoke the word to them as they were able to hear it. But without a parable He did not speak to them. And when they were alone, He explained all things to His disciples (Mark 4:33–34).
Commentary
Mark concluded his account of Jesus’ kingdom parables by explaining His purpose and approach in teaching this way. Mark recorded only a few of the parables that Jesus gave (as opposed to Matthew and Luke). They were given to pique the interest of people (and to hide truth from the rebellious. Jesus would reveal their true meanings in private—truths concerning His kingdom—-so that they might prepare for it.
